Inmate dies at Joplin City Jail

The death of an inmate at the Joplin City Jail is under investigation by the Joplin Police Department and an autopsy has been ordered.

Mark L. Willis, 50, of Joplin, was discovered deceased in a cell at the jail about 6:17 a.m. today, with no obvious signs of either foul play or suicide, according to a news release from the Joplin Police Department. Willis was the lone occupant of the cell at the time.

An autopsy has been scheduled to be performed Friday by a medical examiner in Columbia.
