NEOSHO, Mo. —
Newton County sheriff’s deputies say they intercepted 2 pounds of pure crystal methamphetamine being transported from Texas by a Neosho woman and a Joplin man.
Chief Deputy Chris Jennings of the Newton County Sheriff’s Department said the meth was found in the engine compartment of a Nissan Sentra that was stopped about 8 p.m. Saturday on Missouri Highway 43 near Kentucky Road.
“We figure the street value after it was cut would be about $90,000,” Jennings said.
He said the vehicle was stopped as the culmination of a monthlong investigation into drugs being brought to Southwest Missouri from San Antonio.
The driver of the car, Amy L. Litchfield, 33, of Neosho, was arrested along with an alleged escort, Robert J. Church, 31, of Joplin, who was following her in a pickup truck.
“He tried to block us so she could get away,” Jennings said.
Their vehicles were stopped, and a drug-sniffing was taken to the scene. Jennings said the meth was found in the engine compartment of the Sentra.
Both suspects were charged with second-degree trafficking in drugs. They posted bonds of $25,000 each on Monday and were released from the Newton County Jail pending court appearances.
