Miami motel manager reports robbery

MIAMI, Okla. — Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man who robbed a manager of a motel east of Miami, Okla., about 1 p.m. today.

Detective Derek Derwin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said a female manager of the Serenity Inn on U.S. Highway 69 east of Miami was working in the motel office when a man entered and inquired about renting a room.

When the manager turned to retrieve a key to show him a room, the man tried to grab her purse and a struggle ensued during which he punched her in the face, Derwin said. Once the suspect gained control of the purse, he emptied it on the floor, took about $500 in cash and fled, he said.

Derwin said the suspect was described as about 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short, black hair and a medium build.
