The fatal shooting of a 37-year-old man inside his parents’ home is believed to have been a suicide, according to Joplin police.

Cpl. Chuck Niess said officers were called about 8 p.m. to the 400 block of South Monroe Avenue regarding a depressed man.

By the time they arrived, Matthew J. Brown, 37, had shot himself in the head.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene, Niess said. He said the death was being treated as a suicide.
