The Jasper County sheriff confirmed Friday that his department was on the verge of clearing several recent storage unit break-ins with the pending arrest of a Joplin man.
“We are currently serving a search warrant in Joplin and anticipate recovering a large quantity of stolen items,” Sheriff Randee Kaiser said late in the afternoon on Friday.
The search warrant was being served at the home of a 43-year-old suspect whom investigators went to question about 2 p.m. and found in a heavily drugged state, Kaiser said. The sheriff said the suspect apparently had taken a significant quantity of drugs a short time before investigators’ arrival. He was taken to Freeman Hospital West to be checked out as a health precaution, he said.
The man had not been charged as of Friday afternoon, but was developed as a suspect in a series of thefts from storage units in Joplin, Carl Junction and Seneca in the past couple of weeks.
