PITTSBURG, Kan. — The cause of a fire early Wednesday that destroyed an auto body shop in Pittsburg remains under investigation by a state fire marshal.
The Pittsburg Fire Department responded at 3:10 a.m. to a report of a fire at the Vilela Auto Body Shop, 103 S. Elm St., and found the single-story metal building in flames.
Battalion Chief Jim Radell said two aerial trucks were set up, and off-duty firefighters were called in to help fight the fire. Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 5:30 p.m., but the shop and three vehicles inside had been destroyed by then, Radell said.
No injuries were reported. Radell said the cause of the fire remained undetermined late in the day Wednesday, but it is believed to have started near an electrical panel.
