Probation office fire deemed arson

From staff reports

NEVADA, Mo. — Investigators have determined that a fire that gutted the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole office in Nevada was deliberately set.

The fire early Wednesday morning caused heavy fire damage to the west end of the state office and heat and smoke damage throughout the building. Nevada Fire Chief Bill Thornton said an investigation by a state fire marshal and an investigator with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has determined the fire was a case of arson.

Anyone with information about the crime is being asked to call the state’s arson hot line at 1-800--39-ARSON. Callers are eligible for a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
