Judge hands defendant 15 years for kidnapping two women

NEOSHO, Mo. — A judge today sentenced Johnny Davis Jr. to 15 years in prison for violently abducting two women south of Joplin and taking them to Oklahoma for the purpose of sexually assaulting them.

Circuit Judge John LePage assessed Davis, 33, of rural Nowata, Okla., 15 years on each of two counts of kidnapping and two counts of first-degree assault. Jurors found Davis guilty of the offenses in March at a trial held in Pineville on a change of venue.

The judge ordered that the defendant’s four sentences run concurrently. But he also ordered that the terms run consecutively to any sentence that Davis might be required to complete on a parole violation filed in Oklahoma.

Davis was on parole from a prior rape conviction when he attacked the two women, ages 29 and 39, on Dec. 26, 2011, on Cedar Drive south of the Petro truck stop and forced them to come with him in his pickup truck. The women testified that he made both of them perform sexual acts on him and with each other during a 12-hour ride around Oklahoma.

Davis remains charged with raping one of the women at a location in Nowata County. The alleged  parole violation is pending in Craig County where he was convicted of raping a teacher on school grounds in 1999.
