Neosho man dies, Grove driver hurt in traffic accident

— A Neosho man was killed and an Oklahoma man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 8:02 a.m. Thursday on Missouri Highway 96, three miles north of Joplin in Jasper County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Gary D. Maddox, 69, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by the Jasper County coroner. Douglas L. Hance, 58, of Grove, Okla., was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.

Maddox was driving an eastbound car that crossed the centerline and struck a westbound truck rig driven by Hance, the patrol said.

• A 30-year-old man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 5:14 p.m. Wednesday at Jefferson and Joplin streets in Pittsburg, Kan., according to Pittsburg police.

Jeremy Edwards, of Pittsburg, was taken to Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.

Edwards was driving a westbound car that collided with a southbound pickup truck driven by James Wittry, 30, of Greeley, Kan., when Wittry failed to stop for a red light, police said.
