Police say case might involve child neglect

Joplin police are looking into a possible case of neglect involving a 3-year-old girl brought to Mercy Hospital in Joplin by her mother this past Sunday.

Lt. Brian Lewis said police were summoned to the hospital after a call reporting the matter to the state’s child abuse and neglect hot line. He said the child’s physical condition raised the question of possible neglect. The girl and her mother live at an address in central Joplin.

Lewis said the investigation remained open Friday without any charges having been filed.
