Accident cited in gunshot wound to man’s hand

A Joplin man accidentally shot himself in the hand Saturday while preparing for a trip to a shooting range, according to police.

Younger Harrison, 42, sought treatment for a gunshot wound about 9 a.m. Saturday at Freeman Hospital West. Police were not notified of the shooting until later in the day, according to Lt. Charla Geller.

Geller said Harrison told an officer that he had cleaned the gun and was loading it at his residence on West Perkins Street before going to a shooting range when the weapon discharged.
