18 head of cattle stolen from property near Sarcoxie

SARCOXIE, Mo. — Jasper County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the theft of 18 head of cattle from a property near Sarcoxie.

Sheriff’s Capt. Derek Walrod said the cattle were stolen from the area of County Road 10 sometime between Thursday and Sunday. Seventeen were calves, and one was an adult cow with an “LM” brand on its left hip. Walrod said the theft probably required more than one vehicle.

“We’re assuming at least two trailers for 18 of them,” Walrod said. “But with all the rain we had, it’s hard to tell.”

He said a similar theft of cattle was reported in Lawrence County, but the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department did not return a call from the Globe seeking information about that theft.
