Suspects arrested in Diamond home invasion

DIAMOND, Mo. — Two suspects in the invasion of a woman's home in Diamond and the theft of her car were located this afternoon in Sarcoxie and taken into custody.

Two young men wearing bandannas across their faces walked into the home of a 63-year-old woman about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in Diamond, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Department.

"One was armed with a gun and the other with a knife," Chief Deputy Chris Jennings said. "They demanded money. She did not have any. So they took her car and left."

He said the woman was not harmed. Her car eventually was recovered in Jasper County. Jennings said the culprits apparently abandoned the vehicle when it ran out of gas.

The suspects were located this afternoon at the home of a relative in Sarcoxie and were taken into custody with the help of Jasper County sheriff's deputies. Jennings said they are both 18 years old. Their names were being withheld pending the filing of charges.
