Joplin police are trying to figure out if break-ins over the weekend at the Community Clinic and two downtown businesses are related.
Someone kicked in a window overnight Friday to gain access to the Community Clinic at 701 S. Joplin Ave. Several doors inside the building were kicked open, desks were ransacked and a soft-drink machine was broken into. Petty cash, coins from the machine, and syringes and lidocaine were taken, police said.
The same night, entry was gained to Intercity Florists & Gifts through a back door of the business at 424 S. Joplin Ave. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
A door was pried open at the back of Smith’s Floor & More at 814 S. Main St. between 3:30 p.m. Saturday and about 11:40 a.m. Sunday. Cash, checks and a handgun were stolen from the business, police said.
