JOPLIN, Mo. —
COLUMBUS, Kan. — Authorities on Friday disclosed the identity of a man who died Thursday morning in a house fire near Columbus.
The victim was 71-year-old Homer Dale Bristow, the occupant of the house, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department. He died of smoke inhalation, authorities said after an autopsy.
Deputies earlier said that there were no indications of foul play at the house, but the cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday by the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Sheriff’s Department.
