CARTHAGE, Mo. — A fight Saturday night in an alley behind a bar in Carthage resulted in one combatant being taken to a hospital with stab wounds and a second man being arrested on a charge of felony assault.
Officers responding to a report of a stabbing in the 400 block of Grant Street discovered Kaleb Spry, 21, in the alley behind McMorrow’s Triple LLL Irish Pub with multiple wounds to his leg, according to a news release from the Carthage Police Department. Spry was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.
Police Chief Greg Dagnan said Spry was stabbed in the leg by another man at least six times, but none of his wounds were life-threatening.
“We don’t know what the argument was about,” Dagnan said. “We don’t even know if there was an argument.”
He said Spry declined to provide police with an explanation of what happened, and no weapon was recovered.
Interviews with witnesses led to the development of a suspect, and deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department located Steven M. Sloniker minutes later north of the Carthage city limits and detained him for questioning by police.
Sloniker, 30, of Carthage, eventually was arrested and charged with first-degree assault. He is being held at the Jasper County Jail on $10,000 bond.
