Search continues for missing Joplin boater

GROVE, Okla. — The Grand River Dam Authority Police Department said today it is continuing to search the waters of Grand Lake for a Joplin boater missing since last weekend.

According to the GRDA, Michael Shane Chapman, 40, of Joplin, has been missing since Jan. 27. On Monday afternoon, GRDA officers recovered Chapman’s boat from the Sail Boat Bridge area of Grand Lake.

Searchers are concentrating their efforts in an area of Grand Lake ranging from west of Sail Boat Bridge to the East Bay area. They are using boats, as well as GRDA helicopters.

Two plead guilty to post-tornado wire theft
Two defendants pleaded guilty Monday to stealing copper wire from utility poles in the wake of the May 22, 2011, tornado that struck Joplin. Timothy M. Silveria, 45, of Joplin, and Nycoa K. Kracht, 32, of Laurel, Ind., entered open pleas of guilty in Jasper County Circuit Court to felony counts of theft from a public utility.
