Three men facing drug charges after traffic stops

Three people are facing felony drug charges stemming from traffic stops this week by Joplin police.

Ricky R. Duncan, 55, of Neosho, was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine after he was stopped Wednesday afternoon at 12th Street and Missouri Avenue.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said the officer reportedly spotted a bag of marijuana sticking out of one of Duncan’s pockets and found a bag of meth inside the bag of pot.

A police dog’s alert on a vehicle that was stopped Monday near 32nd Street and Schifferdecker Avenue led to the arrest of a passenger, Benton L. Jenkins, 47, of Webb City, on a charge of possession of meth. The driver of the car also was arrested for alleged possession of syringes, a misdemeanor offense.

An officer stopped a vehicle with a headlight out at 32nd Street and McClelland Boulevard on Monday and arrested the driver, Matthew I.L. Carr, 31, of Joplin, on a charge of possession of meth. Niess said a police dog’s alert led to a search of the vehicle and the discovery of a glass pipe and two bags of meth on the floorboards of the back seat.
