JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. —
A Joplin man pleaded guilty Friday in Jasper County Circuit Court to a reduced charge in a felony case of domestic assault and was assessed probation.
John K. Hornbeck, 54, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor offense of peace disturbance in a plea deal with the Jasper County prosecutor’s office. Circuit Judge David Mouton accepted the agreement and assessed Hornbeck a year in jail, with execution of the sentence suspended and the defendant placed on unsupervised probation for a year.
Hornbeck was accused of putting a knife to the throat of his girlfriend, Brittany M. Williams, 30, and threatening to kill her on Aug. 23, 2010, according to a probable-cause affidavit. He also threw her to the floor, pulled her hair, hit her and choked her, the affidavit stated.
