PITTSBURG, Kan. — Pittsburg police arrested a suspect Tuesday morning in the Dec. 8 shooting of Ronal Rothal Wright, 21, at Casey’s General Store, 612 S. Broadway.
Wright was shot in the leg during an altercation and was taken to Via Christi Hospital. He identified himself at the time as Trent Cobb, of Kansas City. Police did not provide an explanation as to why Wright had used a false name. He later was identified as Wright.
The suspect, 25-year-old Billy Dee Durden, 225 W. Washington St., Pittsburg, was arrested on a warrant alleging attempted second-degree murder. The arrest was made at an apartment on Springdale Street.
Durden was arrested without incident and was taken to the Crawford County Jail, according to Lt. Detective Cris Hatcher.
In addition to the warrant in the shooting case, Durden was arrested on a Kansas Department of Corrections parole violation warrant, and on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said the investigation of the shooting is continuing. Police said anyone with information related to the crime may report it anonymously via 620-231-1700.
