Purdy man draws 20-year sentence for DWI fatality

OZARK, Mo. — A Purdy man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a drunken driving crash that killed a 10-year-old girl.

Gregory Swaffar, 28, pleaded guilty last month to second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree assault.

KYTV reported that a Christian County judge sentenced Swaffar on Wednesday to 20 years on the murder charge and five years on the assault charges. The terms will run concurrently.

Swaffar admitted that he was drunk when he drove his truck head-on into another vehicle on Missouri Highway 37 in February 2011. The crash in Barry County killed Melissa Kief, of Washburn, and seriously injured her father and another passenger.

The case was handled in Christian County on a change of venue.
