PITTSBURG, Kan. — The last of three men arrested in connection with a home invasion April 28 that also involved a shooting is being held in the Crawford County Jail on $25,000 bond.

Artis Tyrone Earl Rollins III, 25, of Pittsburg, was arrested Thursday by Pittsburg police and charged with aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery. His preliminary hearing is set for May 18 in Crawford County District Court.

Officers responded at 11:44 p.m. April 28 to a report of a shooting at 1122 S. Elm St. and found Mitchell E. Owens, 18, of Kansas City, with a gunshot wound to his hip. He was taken to Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg and treated for a wound before being charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and misdemeanor battery.

Two other men were arrested the same night. John R. Carver, 19, who lives at the address and is the victim of the alleged home invasion, was booked into jail initially on suspicion of assault but was later released without the charge having been filed.

Kyle S. Taggart, 27, of Pittsburg, described as a friend of Carver’s, was charged with attempted first-degree murder. He allegedly shot Owens with a .22-caliber rifle after Owens and two accomplices allegedly entered Carver’s home, assaulted him and took an Xbox game system.

Crawford County Attorney Michael Gayoso said Taggart was charged with attempted murder after investigators determined that the shooting was not a case of self-defense.

Stephen J. Dibble, 24, of Pittsburg, the other of Owens’ alleged accomplices, was arrested April 30 and charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and misdemeanor battery.
