Springfield man identified as man shot outside motel

JOPLIN, Mo. — A man shot and killed by members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force today outside the Motel 6 in Joplin has been identified as Michael D. Findley, 45, of Springfield.

Findley, who authorities say was a parole absconder who had been convicted of assaulting a law enforcement officer, was shot in the parking lot of the motel at 3031 S. Range Line Road.

Shots were fired at 8:35 a.m. when members of the task force, which includes some Greene County sheriff’s deputies, encountered the fugitive outside the motel. No officers or civilians were injured in the shooting.
