Fire damages rural home; no injuries cited

A fire Thursday afternoon caused an estimated $200,000 worth of damage to a house south of Joplin.

The Redings Mill and Joplin fire departments responded to the 4:26 p.m. fire at the home of Steve and Ann Stearnes in the 4500 block of South Indiana Avenue.

Redings Mill fire Capt. Leif Hasty said the fire apparently began in the garage of the 3,000-square-foot home and spread to the front of the house before it could be extinguished. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remained undetermined, Hasty said.
