Newton County man facing felony charge of torching home

NEOSHO, Mo. — A Newton County man has been charged with setting a fire that destroyed his home north of Neosho over the weekend.

The Neosho Fire Department responded about 7:30 a.m. Sunday to a report of a fire on Lot 7 of a small trailer park at 11622 Gateway Drive.

Chief Deputy Chris Jennings of the Newton County Sheriff’s Department said Kyle D. Crawford, 22, was found lying in a doorway of the trailer home that was burning on both ends.

Firefighters and emergency medical technicians determined that Crawford was not injured, but the fire destroyed the residence.

Jennings said the fire proved to be an obvious case of arson, with separate fires having been started on each end of the trailer home. Crawford was charged with second-degree arson. Jennings said the suspect’s reason for allegedly setting the fire remained uncertain.
