Joplin woman to stand trial in child-porn case

A Joplin woman waived her right to a preliminary hearing Thursday and was ordered bound over for trial on a charge of promoting child pornography.

Channah C. Case, 25, waived the hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin and was ordered by Associate Judge Richard Copeland to make an initial appearance Oct. 22 in a trial division of the court.

Case was arrested in March after an investigation by a detective with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department who is assigned to the Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force. The detective had come across several files of child pornography on the Internet, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

The Internet protocol address of the computer was identified, and a search warrant was obtained for Case’s residence at 2338 S. Highview Ave., according to the affidavit. A forensic preview of three computers in the home allegedly turned up 15 videos and four images of child pornography.
