A Monett man pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to possession of cartoons depicting child pornography.
Christjan Bee, 36, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Springfield to possession of obscene materials in a plea agreement that would lead to a recommendation that he be sentenced to three years in prison without parole, according to the U.S. attorney’s office for the Western District of Missouri.
Bee’s wife contacted the Monett Police Department in August 2011 concerning files she found on her husband’s computer, the federal prosecutor’s office said. The information she provided police led to a search warrant and the seizure of the defendant’s computer.
A forensic examination of the computer turned up a collection of electronic comics, titled “Incest Comics,” that contained numerous cartoon images of minors engaged in sexual intercourse with adults and other minors. The U.S. attorney’s office said the images “clearly lack any literary, artistic, political or scientific value.”
A sentencing hearing will be scheduled for the defendant after a pre-sentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office.
Monett police were assisted by the Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force in the investigation.
