Woman placed on probation in court case

A Joplin woman pleaded guilty Monday to a reduced charge in a child-endangerment case involving alleged unsanitary conditions in the home she shared with her husband and their two children.

Julie A. Gray, 23, pleaded guilty in Jasper County Circuit Court to a misdemeanor charge of child endangerment in a plea deal with the county prosecutor’s office. She had been facing a felony count of the offense.

Circuit Judge David Dally accepted the plea deal and assessed the defendant one year in the county jail, with execution of the sentence suspended and the defendant placed on probation for two years.

The charge was filed in October 2011 after an investigation of the home of Clinton and Julie Gray at 524 S. Park Ave. by police and the Missouri Department of Social Services.

A probable-cause affidavit alleges that investigators found dirty diapers and other trash covering the floors of the home and hundreds of cockroaches.

The children, ages 1 and 6 months, were placed in state custody, the court document states.

Clinton Gray also was charged with felony child endangerment. His case remains pending.
