A felony drug charge has been filed against a woman who was arrested Monday at a home in Joplin where a prison escapee was taken into custody.
Joplin police Lt. Brian Lewis said Tara D. Wheelen, 40, of Galena, Kan., was taken into custody on active city warrants when Newton County sheriff’s deputies and police officers located escaped Oklahoma prisoner Alvin Boyer inside a home on McClelland Boulevard.
The Jasper County prosecutor’s office filed a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance against Wheelen after a bag containing methamphetamine allegedly was discovered in her possession during booking procedures at Joplin City Jail.
In a separate incident, a 23-year-old man was arrested on a felony drug charge after a traffic stop Monday night at 18th and Main streets in Joplin. Alexander D. Belt, of Joplin, was charged with felony possession of a oxycodone pill.
