Pittsburg woman hurt in car crash near intersection

A Pittsburg, Kan., woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 11:51 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Highway 69 and Quincy Street, according to the Crawford County sheriff’s office.

Michelle Scott, 42, was taken by ambulance to Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff’s deputies said Scott’s northbound vehicle ran off the road, and into a ditch and a tree.

• A Mount Vernon man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 8:30 a.m. Monday on Route ZZ in Lawrence County, about three miles northeast of Aurora, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Geoffrey G. Davis, 62, was taken by private vehicle to Mercy Hospital in Aurora with minor injuries, the patrol said.

The other driver, Joe L. Head, 74, of Aurora, was not injured, the patrol said.

The patrol said Head’s westbound vehicle was attempting to make a left turn onto a country road when it turned into the path of the eastbound Davis vehicle, which struck the first vehicle. Head’s vehicle then ran off the road.

• Two Chicago residents were injured in a single-vehicle accident at 6:45 a.m. Monday on Interstate 44, about a mile east of Sarcoxie in Jasper County, according to the patrol.

Perry D. Smith, 21, and his passenger, Marvin L. Frye, 20, were taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin with minor to moderate injuries, the patrol said.

The patrol said the westbound vehicle slid off the road and across an interstate entrance ramp before hitting a dirt embankment and overturning.

• A Webb City woman was injured at 6:19 a.m. Monday when she was struck by a vehicle about half of a mile east of Carthage in Jasper County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Trisha R. Patton, 32, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin with moderate injuries, the patrol said.

The patrol said Patton was walking east on Chestnut Street and was struck by a pickup truck driven by Jason M. Ceselski, 34, of Monett.

The attorney for Jeffrey Bruner claimed pretrial publicity as the reason for seeking a change of venue in Jasper County Circuit Court.

  • Embezzler from Joplin car dealerships sent to prison

    A federal judge has sentenced Kathryn M. Stayton to 13 months in prison for embezzling more than $100,000 from Frank Fletcher Ford and Credit Cars of Joplin. U.S. District Judge Greg Kays assessed the 36-year-old Joplin woman the prison term at a sentencing hearing this week in federal court in Springfield. The judge also ordered the former controller at both car dealerships to pay restitution totaling $121,249. 51.
