Joplin man faces assault charge

JOPLIN, Mo. — A 20-year-old Joplin man is facing a felony domestic assault charge for allegedly choking his mother during an argument.

Ryan R. Smith, 20, was arrested following a disturbance Friday night at 2109 S. Annie Baxter Ave.

Lt. Matt Stewart, with the Joplin Police Department, said the suspect is accused of choking Devon R. Smith, 39. She did not require medical attention following the incident, according to Stewart.

Smith was charged with second-degree domestic assault.
