Joplin man reports assault and robbery

JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin police are investigating a report by a 29-year-old Joplin man that he was robbed Tuesday night by a male acquaintance.

John D. Tipton told police that a man he knows demanded money from him and punched him in the throat about 10 p.m. Tuesday inside Tipton’s home at 203 N. Joplin Ave. The man then left with a backpack belonging to him, Tipton told police.

Cpl. Chuck Niess, with the Joplin Police Department, said Tipton declined medical attention following the incident. Niess said police had yet to locate the suspect by Wednesday afternoon.
