Area resident treated for injuries after plane crash

MOUNT VERNON, Mo. — An 85-year-old Mount Vernon man was in a Springfield hospital on Tuesday after crashing his plane on a private airstrip on his property, said Missouri State Highway Patrol Lt. Dan Bracker.

David Bieller crashed his 1973 Piper Tomahawk at 9:20 a.m. on his property on County Road 1117 outside of Mount Vernon. Bracker said the plane struck a tree line.

Bracker said Bieller was taken by ambulance to a Springfield hospital with serious injuries. Bracker said he didn’t think the injuries were life-threatening.
