Blasting for project on I-44 postponed

The contractor constructing the new eastbound exit ramp for Interstate 44 at Hearnes Boulevard has informed Joplin officials that blasting scheduled for this week has been postponed indefinitely.

McCarthy Construction reportedly has determined that rock at the construction site is softer than anticipated and that blasting may not be needed. Detonations planned for today and Thursday have been canceled.

Joplin police announced last week that they would be stopping traffic on certain streets near the blasting zone for short periods each of the two mornings.
