Judge grants man supervised probation in assault case

From staff reports

— A 36-year-old man received a suspended imposition of sentence Friday on a felony domestic assault conviction in Jasper County Circuit Court.

Circuit Judge David Mouton granted Billy W. Bishop, of Cape Girardeau, a suspended sentence with five years of supervised probation. Bishop had pleaded guilty April 12 to second-degree domestic assault in a plea agreement with the Jasper County prosecutor’s office that limited the prison sentence that he might receive to no more than four years.

Bishop assaulted his former girlfriend, Nicole Goodman, on Aug. 7, 2011, at an address on Ornate Lane in Duenweg. A probable-cause affidavit states that he attacked her in her sleep, hitting her in the face, putting her in a choke hold with his arms, and threatening to kill her and her family.
