A Joplin police officer responding to a report of possible trespassers Wednesday afternoon on a property near Eighth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue contacted a woman who reported having been sexually assaulted earlier in the day.
Cpl. Chuck Niess said the 31-year-old woman told the officer that the assault took place at an address in central Joplin. She was taken to a local hospital to have a rape kit performed.
The case remained under investigation Thursday without any arrest having been made, Niess said.
