Trail walker shot in both legs

NEOSHO, Mo. — A woman was shot through both legs Sunday night while walking a trail at Morse Park in Neosho.

The Neosho Police Department is investigating the shooting that took place shortly before 10 p.m. and sent a 29-year-old woman to the emergency room of Freeman Neosho Hospital.

A single shot of unknown caliber is believed to have passed through the thighs of both her legs without causing extensive damage, according to a statement released by the city. The woman was treated at the hospital and released.

The victim and her husband reportedly were walking along a trail in the park when they heard two gunshots in the distance. They proceeded toward their vehicle and were near the walking bridge across from the ballfields in the park when they heard two more shots. The woman felt a stinging in her legs and realized that she had been shot.

The shots may have come from a wooded area to the east of the ballfields, according to the news release. The couple reported seeing no persons or vehicles in the area.
