Masked gunman robs convenience store

JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin police on Monday were looking for a masked man who early Sunday morning robbed the Fastrip convenience store at 1902 E. 32nd St.

The robber entered the store at 2:57 a.m. dressed in black and brandishing a handgun, according to Cpl. Chuck Niess, with the Joplin Police Department.

Niess said the masked man filled a backpack he was carrying with cartons of cigarettes and whiskey bottles from store shelves as the clerk was getting him cash from the store’s register.

The suspect, described as skinny and about 5 feet 8 inches tall, left the store on foot, Niess said.

The clerk did not see him get in a vehicle, he said.
