JOPLIN, Mo. —
Two suspects in a strong-arm robbery Friday morning outside a bank in Parsons, Kan., were captured two hours later in downtown Joplin.
Capt. Derek Walrod, with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, said two deputies just happened to be behind the suspects in traffic as a description of their maroon sport-utility vehicle was received from the Parsons Police Department.
The deputies pulled the SUV over at Third and Main streets and detained two occupants.
Scott Gofourth, the Parsons police chief, said arrest warrants were being sought on a 26-year-old man from Parsons and a 20-year-old man from Rayville, La., who were taken into custody and were being held at the Jasper County Jail.
Gofourth said extradition would be sought once the warrants were issued.
Gofourth said the robbery took place about 10:40 a.m. in the parking lot outside Community National Bank, 330 N. 16th St., in Parsons. A man wearing a ski mask intercepted a woman on her way into the bank with a deposit from a local business and grabbed the bank bag from her.
“A concerned citizen actually helped solve this case for us,” Gofourth said.
He said a witness to the robbery saw the suspect run to a vehicle occupied by a second suspect. The witness was able to provide police not only with a description of the vehicle, but also its license plate number, the police chief said.
Gofourth said the woman robbed did not require medical transport for any injuries sustained in the robbery.

Kracht, 32, of Laurel, Ind., entered open pleas of guilty in Jasper County Circuit Court to felony counts of theft from a public utility.
