CARTHAGE, Mo. — Fireworks were the likely cause of a fire Sunday morning in a storage room at a Webb City home, according to Battalion Chief Mark Metsker of the Webb City Fire Department.

Metsker said fire crews were called at 11:41 a.m. to a home on West Sixth Street, where the contents of a storage room next to the carport of the single-story residence were on fire.

He said six people were home at the time, though he didn’t know how many of them live there. There were no injuries, he said.

Metsker said he thinks the fire was caused by fireworks, which were being set off by children in the backyard at the time.
