Two motorists hurt in traffic accident southeast of Monett

Two people were injured in a single-vehicle accident at 1:40 p.m. Monday on Farm Road 1100, two miles southeast of Monett in Barry County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the vehicle, Charles W. Childress, 60, of Purdy, and his passenger, Joe L. Nodine, 54, of Monett, were taken to Cox Hospital in Monett, the patrol said.

The southbound pickup truck slid off the icy roadway, struck a road sign and overturned, the patrol said.

• Both drivers suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 7:30 p.m. Sunday on Missouri Highway 96, six miles west of Halltown in Lawrence County, the state patrol said.

Kayla M. Kirbey, 22, of Parsons, Kan., and Kalsey L. Burkett, 21, of Republic, were taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, the patrol said.

Burkett’s eastbound car crossed the centerline and struck Kirbey’s westbound car head-on, the patrol said.

• A 20-year-old man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 2 p.m. Sunday at Broadway and Cleveland Street in Pittsburg, Kan., according to the Pittsburg Police Department.

Ernest Arriaga, of Pittsburg, was taken to Via Christi Medical Center in Pittsburg, police said.

Arriaga was driving a southbound car that collided with a Ford Explorer driven by Braxton Stout, 19, of Pittsburg, when Stout failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn at the intersection, police said.
