Neosho woman to serve five days in jail, probation

A Neosho woman was sentenced Monday in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin to five days of shock time in the Jasper County Jail and five years of probation for snatching a purse.

Jessica Oliver, 20, grabbed a purse from a 72-year-old woman in the parking lot of Northpark Mall, causing the woman to fall.

An underlying sentence is seven years in prison, according to online court records. Circuit Judge Gayle Crane issued the sentence.

Oliver pleaded guilty in July to a charge of second-degree assault in the Dec. 18 theft. A probable-cause affidavit states that the defendant grabbed the purse from Mary Pintar and fled, causing Pintar to fall to the pavement. Pintar injured her back, neck, thumb and middle finger, and suffered a cut above an eye.

Oliver originally also faced a charge of first-degree robbery.
