Man, 20, suffers broken bones in assault on parking lot

A 20-year-old man suffered several broken bones in his face from an assault Wednesday night in the parking lot of Northpark Mall in Joplin.

Police were called to Mercy Hospital after Dylan R. Talley was taken there for treatment of his injuries, which included a broken nose and other facial fractures.

Officer Michael Gayman said Talley was jumped by two men on the west side of the mall parking lot. Talley told police he did not know the assailants, who punched and kicked him repeatedly for no known reason. He thought the attack may have been gang-related because he was wearing a black bandanna headband, although he has no gang affiliation and was not wearing the headband for that reason.

Gayman said the assault remained under investigation Friday without any arrests.
