Fire at motel causes evacuation; no injuries reported

MIAMI, Okla. — A fire in a maintenance room forced the evacuation of guests Thursday night from the Serenity Inn, according to the Miami Fire Department.

Firefighters were called at 5:51 p.m. to the motel at 10986 S. Highway 69 in Miami when a fire started on a work bench in a maintenance room on the east end of the building.

The fire was confined to the room, but smoke from the blaze forced guests to be evacuated from their rooms, according to an administrative assistant with the fire department. No injuries were reported, she said.
