Accident claims woman’s life east of Carthage

A woman from Washington, Mo., was killed in a single-car accident about 9 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 44, four miles east of Carthage in Jasper County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Brenda L. McClure, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene by George Woodward, deputy Jasper County coroner.

McClure’s westbound vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, she overcorrected and it overturned in the median, the patrol said.

• A Moundville man was injured in a two-vehicle accident about 4:30 p.m. Saturday on Farm Road 1250, about six miles southwest of Nevada in Vernon County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Corey L. Wintjen, 37, went by private vehicle to Nevada Regional Medical Center. Brenton T. Handly, 23, of Nevada, driver of the other vehicle, was not injured.

The accident occurred when the southbound Wintjen vehicle and the northbound Handly vehicle collided after the drivers lost control on loose gravel, according to the patrol.
