Judge orders man to stand trial in weapon case

— A Joplin man waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday and was ordered bound over for trial on a felony weapon charge.

David G. Jackson Jr., 20, waived the hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm. Associate Circuit Judge Richard Copeland set his initial appearance in a trial division of the court for July 22.

Jackson is accused of possessing an illegal, sawed-off shotgun with the stock cut down to a pistol grip. According to a probable-cause affidavit, the gun was found May 7 during a search of his home at 1107 E. North St. by the Jasper County Drug Task Force.
