Van driver hurt in Newton County

A Pierce City woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 1:08 p.m. Monday on Route J, a mile west of Wentworth in Newton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Mary E. Wilks, 68, was taken to Cox Monett Hospital, the state patrol said.

Wilks was driving a westbound van that ran into the rear of a westbound vehicle driven by Andrea S. Butler, 55, of Republic, the patrol said.

• A St. Louis teen was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 6:15 a.m. Monday on Interstate 44, about three miles west of Mount Vernon in Lawrence County, the state patrol said.

Michael D. Smith, 17, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Aurora, the patrol said.

Smith was driving a westbound car that ran off the road and struck a median cable, the patrol said.
