Woman dies in house fire on Gum Road

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — An early morning house fire claimed the life of a rural Jasper County woman, according to the Carl Junction fire chief.

The Carl Junction Fire Department responded to a 5:35 a.m. report of a fire at 25062 Gum Road. Fire Chief Bill Dunn said the front of the residence facing away from the road was heavily involved in flames when firefighters arrived.

The body of Kristi Stockam was discovered just inside the door to the living room of the single-story house, Dunn said. The fire chief was uncertain of the exact age of the victim but believes she was in her 50s. He said family members had been notified.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to Dunn.
