CARTHAGE, Mo. — A fire Monday night in an exhaust stack of a drying oven drew the Carthage Fire Department to the Leggett & Platt plant at 229 N. McGregor St. in Carthage.

The 11:25 p.m. fire had been extinguished already for the most part when firefighters arrived, according to Deputy Fire Chief Roger Williams. But firefighters had to break into the duct work of the oven’s stack to put it out completely, he said.

Employees evacuated the plant when the fire started, and no injuries were reported, Williams said.
