Man accused of stealing cash from register

A Carl Junction man was arrested Monday morning and charged with stealing money out of the cash register at Joplin Garden and Lawn, 1011 S. Joplin Ave.

Police Lt. Brian Lewis said a man entered the business about 9 a.m., stole $129 while the employee on duty was outside and fled. Police located a man matching the description moments later near Virginia Avenue and Eighth Street, and the employee identified him as the suspect.

David W. Helman, 30, was charged with second-degree burglary. Lewis said the cash was recovered from the suspect.
